Kate Bishop – Don’t – Brian Manton

Square page split into 5 equal sized horizontal tiers.
All figures in black silhouette.
All speech bubbles on this page consist of graphical icons.

Tier one
One wide Panel

P1.1
Flat perspective side view shot of a long alleyway. (The bottom line of the panel is the ground, we just see the wall, bins, boarded up doors, etc, in the bkg)
In full figure silhouette on the left of the frame we see Kate Bishop. She holds a bow but it is lowered.
On the right side of the panel, again in silhouette, we see a male figure, starting to run away from Kate.

Kate:  [symbol – A running stickman inside a red circle with a line through it. i.e. “Don’t Run”]

Tier two
Split into two panels with a vertical split in the centre. (Include a thin gutter between panels).

P2.1
Bkg is the same as the first half of p1.1
Kate stands ready to fire her bow.

Kate: [symbol – an arrow]

P2.2
The background on this panel has progressed from the right half of 1.1, but some of the same background should be visible for continuity (think like a scrolling platform game).
The figure is now in full run.

Tier three
This tier is split into three panels, the centre panel is square.

P3.1
Same bkg as p2.1
Kate has released the bowstring.

P3.2
A black arrow in centre frame.
The bkg is in motion blur.

P3.3
The bkg has progressed further again from P2.2
The figure is sprinting.

Tier four
Split into two equal panels, as with tier 2

P4.1
Kate is calmly walking forward. Progress the bkg a small bit.

P4.2
Bkg progressed further.
The arrow has struck the figure in the shoulder. We see the point of impact – he has been pushed forward by the force and lost his footing.

Tier 5
One wide panel.

P5.1
The right side bkg should be the same as P4.2
Kate walks towards the fallen figure who sits on the ground. The arrow sticks out from his shoulder. He holds out an arm in defence.

Kate Bishop - The Fault in Our Stars, Epilogue - R.A. Wonsowski

In case you didn't remember, over the summer I tried my hand at cosmic adventuring.  Just in case you missed it:
Part 1 - Intermezzo - Part 2 - Part 3

So, when Kate comes back home...

Layout:  4 rows of 2 panels each.  Setting:  the basement of Clint Barton's building.  A naked light bulb dangles from the ceiling.  Each panel is a two-shot, CLINT on the left, KATE on the right.  They are shooting at us (as if we were behind the paper targets they are practicing with).  CLINT's bow arm is still in a plaster cast, but is no longer in a sling.  Both are in sweatpants and running shoes.  CLINT is wearing a NY Islanders hockey jersey, KATE is in a T-shirt that says "i'm with bro" with a cartoon glove pointing at CLINT.  CLINT's expression will change from panel to panel, but KATE should be deadpan almost all the way through.

Panel 1 - CLINT has shot his arrow.  KATE is notching hers.

CLINT:  ...so, what happened then?

SoundFX:  Ffff--Tmp.

KATE:  The Cathedral ships fell into the fault as it closed.  Once "Evil Adam" was cut off from his power source, the rest was a mop-up.

Panel 2 - KATE has shot her arrow.  CLINT draws his shot.

CLINT:  (beaming with pride for his protegé) Unbelievable.

KATE:  Yeah, I have to say that was pretty close to being the weirdest thing that has ever happened to me.

SoundFX:  Ffff--Tmp.

Panel 3 - same as Panel 1.

CLINT:  (mock-angry) You're kidding me?

SoundFX:  Ffff--Tmp.

KATE:  What?

Panel 4 - same as Panel 2.

CLINT:  (still mock-angry)You go off into outer space, with two Captain Marvels, and fight two Adam Warlocks, who are leading an alien church congregation...

CLINT:  ...which is sacrificing Galactus to squid-creatures from another dimension, because I dunno what...

SoundFX:  Ffff--Tmp.

Panel 5 - same as Panel 1.

CLINT:  (still grinning in disbelief) ...and that's not the weirdest thing ever to you...

SoundFX:  Ffff--Tmp.

CLINT:  ...I'd love to know what takes the top spot...

Panel 6 - same as Panel 2.

KATE:  Well, there was that long flight home, and no one brought a deck of cards...

SoundFX:  Ffff--Tmp.

KATE:  ...Boomer and I were still rushing off the adrenaline...sweaty, y'know, things...happen...

Panel 7 - same as Panel 1, except CLINT's eyes are wide and his jaw is dropped as his shot has gone wild.  KATE is smirking to herself as she draws her shot.

KATE:  ...and then Gamora showed up with that bath oil, and saw us, and then...well...

SoundFX:  ffFFF-KkSsH!!

Panel 8 - CLINT's arms are hanging to his sides, one hand holding the bow, the other hand empty.  His eyes are still wide as he looks blankly ahead.  KATE shoots, still smirking smugly.

KATE:  Ohmygod, Clint, you're so easy....

SoundFX:  Ffff--Tmp.

KATE:  Looks like you owe me a Coke...

CLINT:  Sorry.  Brain broke.  Please leave a message at the tone...

Kate Bishop is Hawkeye in - Moving Target - Niel Jacoby

1111222
3344455
6666666
6666666
6666666

Panel 1: Kate Bishop, in normal dress, is locking the door of Clint's Bed-Stuy apartment. She does not have her bow and arrows with her.

NO COPY

Panel 2: Two men are sitting in a forest green Cadillac Eldorado. Think this. The man in the driver's seat, the arranger, is a dark-haired man in black sunglasses wearing a Bluetooth headset. The man in the passenger's seat, the client, is a pudgy, middle-aged man, the kind of man you could imagine leading a company in the Honorable Mentions of the Fortune 500. He's wearing coke-bottle glasses. They both are wearing all black tactical gear and are packing heat. There's an attache case on the client's lap.

Arranger: THE BOSS WANTS 50 MILLION UP FRONT, AND A SECOND 50 IF YOU MAKE THE KILL. I'LL ASSUME YOU'VE GOT THE FULL HUNDRED IN THAT CASE?

Client: Y-YES.

Arranger: GOOD. THEN WHEN SHE WALKS OUT THAT DOOR...

Panel 3: an archer stands in the window at the end of the hallway where Kate is exiting the door.

Caption(Arranger): "... THE HUNT BEGINS."

Panel 4: The archer looses an arrow.

SFX: TWINNG!

Panel 5: The arrow lands about a foot in front of Kate's face, as a banner unfurls, reading:

THINK FAST:
YOUR LIFE DEPENDS ON IT

Panel 6: A map of the area around Hawkeye's apartment. There is a mile radius around the apartment shaded purple, with the area around it a light blue. In the legend, the purple should be "Danger Zone" and the blue is "home free". There should be a marker for the target range Kate has her arrows stored, at about halfway between the apartment and the line dividing Danger Zone and home free. Kate's location is marked with a small pictogram of her face, and the client and arranger's location should be marked with a set of sunglasses identical to those worn by the Arranger.

Kate Bishop - No Hands - J.D. Coughlan

Panel 1: Two-shot of Clint and Kate, tied to chairs, their backs to us. They face each other, arguing. In the background in front of them, MODOK throws his arms up in annoyance. Two AIM guards flank him with big laser rifles.

CLINT: I'm just saying, I know I did everything right--

KATE: What, you're doubting me? Let's compare reputations, shall we?

CLINT: Ugh! Look, we can't afford any mistakes on this one.

MODOK: SILENCE!

Panel 2: Reverse angle; MODOK's giant head in the foreground. Clint shoots him a casual glance.

CLINT: We're talking here, Humpty.

KATE: Everything's primed, ready to go, all planned out. No mistakes.

Panel 3: MODOK, further annoyed, gets close to Clint and Kate.

MODOK: Bah! You are my captives!

KATE: Not for long, Donkey Kong.

MODOK: Without your bows and arrows, you are nothing!

Panel 4: Split-screen, showing two bows rigged up to a mechanism that will fire an arrow from them. One is nocked with an ordinary arrow, the other with an explosive tip. They both have timers which are now at zero.

KATE (CAP): See, in the Girl Scouts, they taught me to always be prepared.

Panel 5: Same as Panel 1, but now there's an arrow shooting in and cutting Clint and Kate's bonds, with another striking MODOK and exploding, also knocking out his guards.

SFX (1ST ARROW): ZIP

SFX (2ND ARROW): BOOM

MODOK: Gaaaaah!

Panel 6: Same angle. Clint and Kate stand up and dust themselves off.

KATE: Even with no hands, I'm a better shot than you.

CLINT: Yeah, yeah...

Kate Bishop – Apartment Block Blues - Shaun Richens

PAGE ONE – 4 PANELS.

1.1
Small panel. Insert panel in top left of 1.2. Two pairs of arrows jut out of a wall. A slender female hand is clasped around each pair holding on incredibly tight.

CAPTION KATE:
Ok so this isn’t great.

1.2
Large panel. Three quarter page splash. KATE BISHOP hangs from the side of a tower block, only managing to hang on because of the pair of arrows currently embedded in the wall. A few floors up we can see a broken window. That’s clearly where our miss Bishop was so unceremoniously flung.

Kate is dressed in stylish black skinny jeans and a three quarter length sleeve tee with white body and purple sleeves.

CAPTION KATE:
But all things considered things could be worse.

1.3
Small panel. Insert panel in bottom right of 1.2. One of the pairs of arrows has snapped in half. Kate’s hand falls away still holding the broken shafts, the other end of the arrow shaft still juts from the wall.

CAPTION KATE:
Good work Kate. You had to go and tempt fate.

1.4
Wide panel. Kate falls through the air, arms reaching up towards us. She looks amazingly cool and calm for someone falling towards a rather unhappy landing.

CAPTION KATE:
Barton’s guna love getting to save my @*%

Hawkeye – Looks Like Team Spirit – MK Stangeland Jr.

(If none of this makes any sense to you, think “Iowa State”.)

(4 Panels)

Panel 1: A group of MARLOCKS (no reference, but they’re a bunch of aliens with some kind of Technicolor skin, and these ones are built athletically) stand triumphant over their fallen sports foes.

NURTZ (1): MUAH HA!

NURTZ (2): Once again, we reign supreme! Now let us destroy this region of the planet and move on to the next pathetic sector!

Panel 2: NURTZ and the other MARLOCKS look off-panel.

CLINT BARTON: Not yet, you don’t.

NURTZ: Who dares?!

Panel 3: Large panel, featuring a heroic lineup of HAWKEYE (CLINT BARTON), HAWKEYE (KATE BISHOP), HAWKPOOL (DEADPOOL in a Hawkeye-esque costume), MAN-HAWK (A lawyer friendly version of HAWKMAN – made up specifically for this page - with a Hawkeye-esque costume), IRON HAWK (IRON MAN with HAWKEYE-themed armor), SPIDER-HAWK (Hawkeye-themed SPIDER-MAN), and HAWK (version of FALCON).

KATE BISHOP: We dare.

NURTZ: Who are you supposed to be?

KATE BISHOP: Us? We’re Hawkeyes.

SPIDER-HAWK: (Deemphasized/downplayed) This is so stupid.

HAWKPOOL: (Downplayed/Deemphasized) Quiet, Hawk-bug.

Panel 4: NURTZ looks off to the side to a referee who, aside from being sort of terrified by what all has been happening, has his shoulders in a massive shrug and his arms spread out – he clearly doesn’t have the slightest clue on how to make any kind of ruling on this most recent turn of events.

Kate Bishop – The Final Test – Simon McDonald

PANEL ONE
Inside an interrogation cell –furnished by two chairs and a table, and a large one-way mirror - the villain CROSSFIRE looms over KATE BISHOP, battered and bruised. She looks like she has gone through hell. Her hands are fastened to the table, and in the gap between lies a single arrow – identifiable as one of Hawkeye’s because of the colour scheme. Her eyes are locked onto it.

CROSSFIRE
You’re not cut out for this, Kate.
You think it’s as easy as dressing up in spandex
and stealing another hero’s name?

PANEL TWO
Different angle, facing KATE now, and her eyes, unmoving, focused on that arrow. CROSSFIRE is enjoying this, a smile splayed across his face. He’s a master interrogator, after all. This is what he was trained to do.

KATE
When I kill you and steal yours I’ll prove it.

CROSSFIRE
Oh, Kate. Do you really mean that?

PANEL THREE
Cut to inside the interrogation room. We can only make out an older man’s mouth and the moustache across his lip. It’s THUNDERBOLD ROSS – but it should not be too obvious yet.

ROSS
You heard the man.
Let’s see if she’s ready.

PANEL FOUR
Back in the interrogation room, KATE’S clasps suddenly unfasten.

SFX
SNAK!
SNAK!

PANEL FIVE
The arrow on the table should be at the forefront of this panel. Beyond it, CROSSFIRE stands behind KATE, his back to her. He (seemingly) hasn’t recognized the danger. KATE’s eyes – still – remain on that arrow. But her expression has changed. It’s a hard stare. The stare of a person who has succumbed to savage instinct.

Kate Bishop - Shaggy Dog Story - Grant McLaughlin

No particular point in continuity in mind.  I guess potentially set in LA after Kate gets a place to chill at?  I'm not picky.

1 - Some biker dudes are kind of hassling a woman outside a bar.  Let's say they're grabbing at her arm and purse and so forth.  She's obviously worried about this and they're clearly jerkbags.  Some of them turn to look at the source of the off-panel voice yelling at them.

WOMAN (unattributed): lemme go

KATE (off-panel): Hey!

1 - Switch angles to be behind the group of biker dudes, now looking at Kate (who is kind of middle of / across the street).  They've kind of paused in their woman hassling, although she's still there.  Kate points at them accusingly, a serious look on her face.

KATE: It's clear that you losers aren't above roughing up women, so why don't you pick on someone who's calling you names?

3 - Same angle.  The bikers start moving towards her and there are more than initially appeared. On the plus side, the woman is running off.  Kate is unphased, reaching for her arrows.

KATE (quietly) (1): Huh.  Lot more of you than I thought.

KATE (2): 'Sokay.  I'll just grab one of my trusty...

4 - Pseudo-inset / overlaid panel.  A close up of Kate's quiver, which is empty.

KATE (off-panel, tailless): ...

5 - Lucky is looking as ashamed and bashful as only a dog can.  Kate is holding up bedsheets which have puke all over them.  She holds them in a way that obscures her face and most of her upper body.

CAPTION (KATE): Where the heck are my arrows?

KATE: Ugh, what did you eat to make you sick up like this?

6 - Guys close in around Kate.  She slumps her shoulders, rolls her eyes, looking both tired and annoyed.

KATE: Futz.

7 - Back at the apartment.  Kate is walking in the front door.  She is kind of beat up and looking rather unhappy.

KATE: Lucky!

8 - Lucky runs over and jumps up on Kate the way dogs do when they're happy to see their person come back home.  Lucky is all kinds of excited, and his enthusiasm is rubbing off on Kate, who is cracking a smile.

KATE: Alright!  I'll forgive you!

9 - Back on the streets.  The biker dudes Kate tussled with are all beaten the heck up, potentially laid out in a circle with their backs to each other, although I'm also partial to the chaos of them laying where they fell.  Let's say there's a note (ala Spider-Man) visible to the reader that reads:
"To: Police
From: Your Friendly Neighbourhood Hawkguy"

CAPTION (KATE): ...but this isn't nearly as endearing as you think!

Kate Bishop - What's in a Name? - Ben Rosenthal

1. A fully body shot of Kate.  She  is sitting at a bar in a crowded club enjoying a drink by herself.  She is having time out from dancing.

2.  A guy has walked up next to her - he's a sleazy douche.  Leaning on the bar is is obvious he is trying to crack on to her.  Kate in the mean time has picked up a coaster from the bar and is looking at it, ignoring the douchey guy.

GUY
Hey sexy, what's your name?

3.  Kate has thrown the coaster at the ground so it will hit the ground on it's side.  The guy hasn't noticed.  The trajectory tells us that the coaster is about to hit him in the privates.

4.  The guy  is reacting to being hit at a great force by the coaster in the privates.  Kate has her back to him, headed back to the dance floor.

KATE
Hawkeye.

Why Kate Bishop?

Why Kate Bishop?  Why Kate Bishop?

Besides the fact that she is awesome?

Besides the fact that she kicks all the ass?

Besides the fact that she is Lady Hawkguy?

Why Kate Bishop? Because this week's pick got in late and she was the first character I could think of to cover it.
